www.realestateslink.comRenting directly from Home Owners?Renting directly from Home Owners? Things to think before you ink the contract Renting from owners directly is a very different thing that renting in other ways. If you are renting a basement suite or a house chances are you are renting directly from the owners this is different than if you were renting from an apartment building for example. When you rent directly from the owners of a property you needed to keep an eye out for some very specific things. When you are renting straight from the owners you can negotiate for the rent you will have to pay. This is a common practice and it will not shock your potential landlords so do not ever worry about offending someone. Never just take the number that they throw out at you because they pitch it higher knowing that you will try to dicker it down. So go for it, you have nothing to lose and a lot to save. If it is a lease you will be getting form the landlords then make sure that you go over this lease extremely carefully. Leases do not really differ from landlord to landlord. Sure the amount will be different but beyond that the majority of leases are the same. Just go over it with a fine toothed comb because it is a legal document and it will bind you to the terms. Never sign the lease until it has been gone over with the owner. You need to ask them any questions that you may have and get everything cleared up before you sing anything at all. And if there are any changes made to the lease then you need to get them put right in there in writing and then initialed by the owner. Don’t skip this step when owning from the owners or you could find yourself in hot water later on down the road. When you are renting from anyone, the owners or anyone else you need to know your rights. You do have rights, you may not own the home you will be living in but you still have rights that should not ever be violated. If you are working with a real estate agent they are usually going to be on the side of the landlord, after all this is where their money comes from so they do what is best for them. All of your questions and concerns should be taken care of in a relatively short period of time. If you do not feel like you are being taken seriously and you are worried then you need to call the appropriate people to report the issue. You have the right to be respected and to have your concerns taken seriously when you are renting directly from the renters. And you should always talk to the current renters to see if they have had any problems with the landlords. In many cases when you rent from an owner you will have to take into consideration whether or not they will be living there. This makes many people uncomfortable and many landlords can be a pain in the butt. So talk to the renter and see how he or she liked living there. |
